John Cortese Masons is a name of tradition, excellence and style. In the midst of its fourth generation, John Cortese Masons has provided a quality service in the community throughout its’ 40+ years in business.
The roots of the business were started in the early 1900's by the present owners’ grandfather, John Cortese Sr.
In the beginning of the 20th century Mr. Cortese came to the shores of America from his little town in southern Italy, and settled in Morristown, where he worked as a stonemason. He worked long and hard to make money to send to his wife and family back in his homeland. However, he was unable to convince his wife to join him in this land of opportunity. Mr. Cortese traveled back and forth from America many times but his heart always pulled him back to Italy. There he passed down his art to his son and namesake, John Jr.
In 1965 John Jr. settled in America with his wife and children. He worked as a stonemason, just as his father had done so many years earlier, in Morristown. He built the stonework from familiar sites around town such as Parsons Village and Historic Speedwell Village.
In 1972, the tradition continued as, John Cortese 3rd, one of the current owners, followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
In 1974 he incorporated the family business and with the help of his partners, his brother Salvatore and cousin Frank, they built a business known for its’ unsurpassed commitment to artistry in stonework.
John Cortese Masons and their employees have consistently provided a solid portfolio of great work, including being featured in "New Jersey Life Magazine", Garden Design and Architectural Digest". Although John Cortese Masons retains a high caliber of clients with a long history of work in the area, they have not forgotten their roots.
In keeping environmentally friendly, natural stone is the perfect choice for homeowners to beautify their surroundings, be it a patio, a retaining wall, steps, fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, and John Cortese Masons can make this happen. No job is too big or too small for John Cortese Masons.
Tradition, quality and style make up the foundation for this family owned business. This old fashioned trade has been passed down through generations and still continues to thrive.
