Cortese Masonry is a name of tradition, quality and style. In the midst of its fourth generation of business, Cortese Masonry has provided a quality service in the community throughout the years.
Work can be seen in Morris County and throughout New Jersey. The roots of the business were started in the early 1900's by the present owner's grandfather, John Cortese Sr.
John came to Morristown and worked as a stonemason, however, he was unable to convince his wife to make the journey to America from Italy. John traveled back and forth from America to Italy to see his wife and children. Over the years John passed down the art of stone masonry to his son John Jr. In 1965 John Jr. finally settled in America with his children and continued working as a stonemason in Morris County. He built the stonework from familiar sites around town such as Parsons Village and Historic Speedwell Village.
In 1972 one of the current owners, John Cortese 3rd, followed in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather and became a stonemason. In 1974 he incorporated the family business. John Cortese 3rd , his brother Sal and cousin Frank, set out to work on numerous sites in Morris County including The Foxwwod Condominiums in Morris Plains.
Working for clientele such as Mack-Cali and SJP Properties, Cortese Masonry and their 30 employees have consistently provided a solid Portfolio of great work., including being featured in "New Jersey Life Magazine", Garden Design and Architectural Digest". Although Cortese Masonry retains a high caliber of clients with a long history of work in the area, they have not forgotten their roots. Most of their work is residential. They build patios, walls and stairs as well as beautiful waterfalls and pools for the homes in the community.
No job is too big or too small for Cortese Masonry. Tradition, quality and style make up the foundation for the family oriented business. Cortese Masonry is in the midst of another generation of family members learning their unique craft. In the summers, John Cortese's sons have been working side with their father learning the trade that is still done in the same fashion as their Grandfather did many years before. John Cortese Sr. started a trade to help his family grow. This trade has been passed down through generations and still continues to thrive. With so many years of experience, a solid portfolio of work and a passion for excellence, it is easy to say that Cortese Masonry has helped their community grow. They will continue on this path and will continue their commitment to tradition, quality and style for years to come.
